Learning Objectives
Knowledge acquired:
Properties of the atomic nucleus and of the strong and weak nuclear interactions. Models of the nuclear structure. Principal features of nuclear reactions, decays and fission.
Special relativity and its applications to the particle motion. The fundamental interactions. The present scenario of the elementary particles. More about the electroweak interaction.
Competence acquired :
Ability to solve simple problems of nuclear physics (radioactivity, nuclear energetics, cross sections and rates of reactions, nuclear structure, decay probability ).
Special relativity calculations.
Description in the SM of the more common particles.
Skills acquired (at the end of the course):
Sound understanding of the basic properties of nuclei and of nuclear forces, reactions and decays, which allows the student to take on more advanced courses on subatomic physics.
Ability to solve complex problems of relativistic kinematics and dynamics. Composite particles description in the SM (mesons and barions).
