We will describe the Physics of atomic gases that, cooled down to few microKelvin or nanoKelvin, show wave-like behavior and quantum degeneracy. We will present the principles and experimental methods to cool and trap atoms using lasers and magnetic fields. We will discuss fundamental aspect connected to collisional physics at ultralow temperatures, atom-atom interaction control, production of cold molecules and the application to precision measurements.
