The student in the first year of the course must submit (typically through an online procedure activated in the last months of the year, according to a calendar defined year by year and made available on the School of Science web pages, see below for more details) an individual Study Plan. Study Plans must meet the requirements outlined in the Educational Regulations and are subject to verification by the Teaching Committee and approval by the Degree Program Council. The student can later request a modification to the submitted Study Plan, either through the same online procedure or by submitting an urgent modification request to the student office (if the thesis discussion is scheduled before the June exam session of the following calendar year).
Starting from the 2023/24 academic year, in order to fill out the Study Plan, one of the 6 Curricula listed below must be chosen (previously there were 4), within which students can choose their courses, typically divided into core, related and integrative, and elective courses (the latter can be of any type and selected from this or other degree programs at the University of Florence). It remains possible, exceptionally and with a valid reason, to submit a personal study plan in paper format (as long as it respects the regulations) and request approval from the Teaching Committee. Additionally, within the more structured Curricula, a series of Paths have been identified to guide students in creating a well-structured Study Plan that complies with the chosen Curriculum rules, with automatic online approval from the Committee.
Below are the 6 Curricula activated for the Degree Program, along with the specific tables for compiling Study Plans and any proposed internal Paths. The information is relevant to the 2024 cohort (enrollments in the 2024/25 academic year):
Curriculum Astrophysics
Curriculum Applied Physics
Curriculum Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics
Curriculum Complex Systems Physics
Curriculum Theoretical Physics
For information regarding the 4 Curricula active until 2022/23 or for students enrolled in previous cohorts (students in their second year or beyond), please refer to the norms in the previous Teaching Regulations. If you wish to submit a Study Plan in accordance with the new paths but in contrast to the norms of an old regulation, a paper-based plan may be submitted. If you simply want to add a newly activated course not present in your cohort’s regulation, leave some free CFUs in rule 9 and select the desired courses using rule 10, where the choice is available among all courses activated by the University of Florence in the current academic year. Note: if a course with a name change (e.g., a simple translation into English) is selected in the Study Plan, the exam must be recorded under the name (and code) corresponding to that in the Study Plan, so inform the instructor in advance.
For general instructions, technical issues, or a guide to filling out the Study Plan, refer to the School of Science MFN website, or email scienze.pianistudio [at] unifi.it. For clarifications regarding the best choice of a path or courses for the selected curriculum, you can contact the relevant reference listed on the corresponding page. Finally, for specific requests regarding the rules of our Master’s Degree Program, if a paper-based plan is necessary, you can contact pianodistudi-group [at] fisica.unifi.it.
