Astrophysics has always been based on observations and data analysis of celestial sources, from Earth or Space, across all wavelengths. Images, spectra, or interferometric data are fundamental for progress in all fields of Astrophysics, from the study of the Sun and the Solar System to stars and protoplanetary disks (in which the presence of organic molecules is observed), from studying our Galaxy and its neighbors to primordial galaxies, active galactic nuclei, and their supermassive black holes.
The Observational Astrophysics pathway naturally fits within the Astrophysics curriculum, and the rules for this should be followed when compiling the study plan. Below are recommendations for selecting core, supplementary/integrative, and elective astrophysical courses for this pathway.
Core Astrophysical Courses (5 courses of 6 ECTS each) Astrophysics Relativistic Astrophysics Cosmology Observations and Data Analysis in Astrophysics One elective from: Plasma Physics Numerical Methods for Astrophysics Astrophysical Techniques |
Recommended Supplementary/Integrative or Elective Courses (5 courses of 6 ECTS each) At least two electives from: Active Galactic Nuclei and Black Holes Exoplanets and Protoplanetary Disks Physics of Galaxies Physics of the Interstellar Medium Other recommended courses: Adaptive Optics and Optical Turbulence for Astrophysics Image Analysis and Computer Vision with Applications to Physical Sciences (Data Science program) Astrobiology* First Stars and First Galaxies Introduction to Astrophysical Observations*** Solar and Heliospheric Physics** Stellar Evolution and Nucleosynthesis
Other electives from the full list of supplementary/integrative or core courses, or courses from other curricula or study programs.
Notes: *If not already selected in the Bachelor's program **Best taken after: Plasma Physics ***If not already selected in the Bachelor's program, useful for: Observations and Data Analysis in Astrophysics |
