Electric properties of matter (gas, polar and apolar liquids, solids, refractive index). Magnetic properties of matter (diamagnetism, paramagnetism, strong magnetism, magnetic transitions, molecular systems, multiferroic materials ).
Macroscopic quantum properties (superconductivity)
Learning Objectives
Chemistry is strongly interested in the development of systems capable of responding to specific requests. Of particular interest is the assembling of structures whose chemical and physical properties are not found in nature.
To develop such systems, depth knowledge of the physics of the matter is necessary.
The aim of the course is to give quantum mechanical knowledge of electric, magnetic, and transport properties of the matter. Finally, the course will introduce the quantum properties of superconductive materials.
The course is designed for students following the curricula of “Supramolecular Chemistry” or “Chemistry of biological molecules”.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of quantum mechanics is required
